Street bench for sociability
“Le plus petit gradin du monde” is a public bench envisaged as an islet of sociability.
The main squares, the parvis, and the public fountains often serve as a gathering place. They have a social dimension at the city level. “Le plus petit gradin du monde” is considered on the scale of man. It brings people together around a common place.
It is formed of only 3 steps and enough depth to sit: a reduced gradin in its simplest expression.
Its minimalist design makes it a graphic object marking in the urban space, an object easy to be appropriated by the users.
Jean Couvreur is a designer, graduated from ENSCI les Ateliers.
He works for many organizations on voluntary projects of different scales and teaches design at École Bleue.
Through a simple and elementary drawing, his approach tries to reveal the essence of the objects that surrounds us.
